Goygol's name, which means "Blue Lake" in Azerbaijani, perfectly encapsulates its essence. The lake itself was formed as a result of a devastating earthquake in 1139, which triggered a massive landslide that blocked the path of the Aghsu River. Over time, this natural dam created Goygol Lake, which now covers an area of approximately 67 hectares.
